Is it normal to be a little nervous about a gas fireplace?
A lot of people are more afraid of gas than they really need to be. I haven't ever seen anything happen from someone trying to light a gas fireplace. If people don't understand how to do it, our guys will show them how to light their pilot.
How often do customers need help with a pilot light?
We probably get around 20 calls a month about how to light a pilot. We'll walk people through it by the fireplace, and they're usually glad to know they can call again anytime they have questions. It happens a lot during the winter because the pilot can blow out, and people don't always know how to relight it.
What if someone still can't get it going?
Sometimes if people just can't get it lit, we'll send a guy out to help. It's usually somewhere close by, so often we can just run over there and light it ourselves.
